2013-06 June Triathlon Reports by Matt Marks
A fun 2 weekends of racing in two local Olympic tris.
June 9th at Lake Natoma was a great course with “warmer than normal” water and mostly sheltered so chop wasn’t bad. The bike was a mostly flat course that was well staffed……..there was a blasting headwind that felt like it was always in your face until we turned for home on Sunrise and picked up steam. The run was the out-back rollers on the south side of the lake that never seems to get easier. Fun to race with some fellow TCB team mates. Finished in 2:25 and 2nd in 45-49 AGR so was happy overall.
June 15th at Rancho Seco Olympic. – I had not planned to race after traveling for work all week but my wife surprised me with a Father Day entry so I couldn’t pass it up. The course is the standard TBF circuit around RS, bike out/back on highway with a few rollers and solid pavement and the dreaded run on the lunar testing grounds. I felt semi rested on the bike since I had not ridden from the prior Tri although I suffered hard on the run and was just glad to finish. I was surprised to race a 2:23 and place 1st in the AGR after the abysmal implosion on the run. I think the only other TCB racer was Arthur Garimov.
Happy Fathers Day! Cheers & happy racing.
